Appeal Deadline is August 1: Real Estate Taxes on Your Home and Commercial Property

Most property owners are now receiving this year’s school tax bill. It is for the 2014-2015 school year, and payment is due September 1 to get the 2% discount. The full amount is due if paid by October 31. (There is a 10% penalty if paid after December 31.)

Does your tax bill look fair and appropriate for your real estate? If so, no problem.

Look at the “Assessment” figure on your bill. Your property should sell now for about half again that assessment. If it would not bring such a price, your assessment may be too high, and consequently you would be paying more than your fair share of taxes.

Not only the school taxes; the Delaware County real estate tax, and the Borough or Township real estate tax, are based on the same assessment figure.

If not sure, or if not fully satisfied with your real estate taxes, now is the time to carry this further. Call Attorney F.D. Hennessy Jr. (610-623-3445), or e-mail fdhennessy@msn.com for an appointment.

But do it now. The appeal deadline is August 1; and it will take a week or so to obtain an inspection and written appraisal report, then have the Appeal with photographs and processing fee filed before the deadline.
